Issue 15, on time

In a world obsessed with productivity hacks and squeezing every last drop of efficiency out of every day, sometimes the best thing you can do is... get creative. Why not spend 5 minutes doing something just for the fun of it? Let go of the idea that every moment needs to go toward some grand achievement. You never know, your best ideas might show up when you’re not even trying!

"Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time."

John Lennon or Bertrand Russell... we're not sure

How much can you really do in five minutes? As it turns out, quite a lot! We scoured the Guinness World Records site to find out what people had achieved in 5 minutes. From the expected: most historical dates memorized, or numbers recalled. To the weird: most stamps licked, or water regurgitated. And our personal fave: most underpants worn. Watch the video to find out just how seriously people took that one.

"In order to most fully inhabit the only life you ever get, you have to refrain from using every spare hour for personal growth."

Oliver Burkeman, author

Life is short. Around 4000 weeks, give or take. Instead of letting that fact stress you out to the point of doing nothing, OR turning you into a productivity machine, why not let it free you? You’re never gonna check off every box on your to-do list – and that’s okay. The key? Realising that you get to choose what’s important to you. Focus on that, let the rest go. If you're intrigued by this idea, we really recommend Oliver Burkeman’s book.

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life."

Melody Beattie, author

The key to happiness is first being happy with what you already have. The Five-Minute Journal is the self-proclaimed original gratitude journal. With a couple of quick daily prompts, it shifts your focus to the positive. A good way to use up 5 minutes, if you ask us.
